Treatment outside of scope
An 18 year old boy has come to your dental clinic for a hygiene appointment with his mum and dad. Upon checking his mouth you notice he requires two large fillings. You inform the patient and the parents about these cavities that require fillings and explain to them that he will need to see a dentist or else he will lose his teeth. The parents looked surprised and ask if you could do the fillings for him. You explain to the parents that it is outside of your scope as he is 18 years old and we only treat patients that require fillings under the age of 18. The parents explain to you that they cannot afford to go to the dentist and also that the patient only turned 18 yesterday. You know that it is outside of your scope and the parents cannot afford to go to the dentist. You are concerned that if no treatment is done he will lose those teeth which could cause more problems in the future. What do you do?
It is proposed that you treat the patient to save the teeth that need fillings
