Tobacco Taxation

Tobacco Taxation

Tobacco taxes are a proven strategy to reduce smoking and would lead to substantial health gains.
Tobacco taxation benefits those smokers who are willing to quit. In addition to this it reduces consumption of tobacco and further induces smokers who have made previous quitting attempts to quit again. Also it benefits non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke and young people who become even less likely to smoke (Hartevelt, 2010).

Hartevelt, J. (2010, April 29). Government increases tobacco excise tax. Retrieved from stuff.co.nz: www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/3634098/Government-increases-tobacco-excise-tax

It is proposed that the government should increase 10 per cent tax on tobacco every year?
