To tell not to tell.

To tell not to tell.

You are newly graduated dental therapist working in Auckland. You do an oral health assessment on a fifteen year old girl. After completing the examination you suspect dental decay in upper right first permanent molar and lower left second permanent molar. You have consent for taking radiographs. You discuss your findings with the girl and ask if we can do radiographs to determine the extent of the decay. She asks how many and is it important? You tell her why it is important. She asks you about x-ray side effects on fetus. You tell her if someone is pregnant or trying to become pregnant you don't take xrays. Then the girl says she does not want them.
Do you talk to her guardian about the conversation between you and the girl? You have to inform parents despite of having consent for radiographs the girl disagrees to have them taken.

If not discussed with parents then the child is at risk of deteriorating her dental condition. She might be afraid to talk about the teen pregnancy.
It is proposed that the issue be discussed with the guardian.
