There has always been debate about tattoos. In recent years the popularity of tattoos has grown with one in five
Americans having at least one tattoo and similar numbers in
New Zealand and the
UK.
With popularity comes increased acceptance, but to what extent does this extend to the workplace?
Should people be free to display tattoos at work or, if the employer feels their visibility will impact on business, should workers have to cover them up?
This is currently being debated in Britain, where the current law supports
employer's rights to enforce workplace 'no-tatt' rules, as it also does in
NZ, although there are exceptions for some cultural tattoos.
There are arguments that from an
employment perspective in some jobs they are unsuitable. What do you think?
