Should John be given a blood transfusion

John is a 16 year old male and was cycling home from school one day when was hit by a car reversing out of a driveway. John loses a lot of blood and is rushed to the hospital where his parents are waiting for him. John's peers are unaware that his family are strong Jehovah witnesses. Johns requires blood to improve his chances of survival, his doctor seeks consent to give him a blood transfusion and Johns father declines on the grounds of religious beliefs. The father requests that all his sone be given is saline.
