Right of abortion

Right of abortion

Jennifer, recently migrated to New Zealand with her husband on student visa for studies, she is 8 weeks pregnant and she was unaware of this. She seeks advise from doctors and gathers information on the expenses of delivering baby in New Zealand. The had medical insurance but apparently not covering maternity. They realize that medical services are not funded in New zealand if the person is not resident or on long term work visa, and it may cost them fortune if they are going to deliver baby. Being not financially strong, as she and her husband didn't get the job yet and also bearing all the expenses of study and her living, decides that they cannot afford to have baby at this stage and make a decision to get the abortion done. By the time they come to final decision, after taking consent from their family its almost 14 weeks. The doctors then advise that its not a right decision to have abortion in 14 weeks as it can harm baby or mother or both. But she and her husband are firm on their decision and want to have abortion
It is proposed that New Zealand government should fund certain amount for such type of situation seeing the circumstances of individual and also in emergency situation.
