Lecretia Seales is a 42 year old woman who has been given a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. At present, medically assisted euthanasia is illegal in New Zealand. However, Lecretia is in the process of challenging New Zealand law so that when she feels that her suffering becomes intolerable she can make the decision to end her life. This would involve being administered a lethal dose of medication by her doctor with no legal repercussion for the doctor in question.
Should the high court grant Lecretia the right to end her life with medical assistance before her health worsens to the point of unendurable suffering?
