Med Lab Ethical Issue-Following Laboratory Protocol

Med Lab Ethical Issue-Following Laboratory Protocol

Sally-Ann is 54 year old Medical Laboratory Scientist, who usually works the evening shifts at her local hospital. Towards the end of her shift, she notices a Urine sample sitting on a rack on her bench. She is to perform microscopy on this sample, she proceeds to check patients details and matches it to the form. She then realizes the patient is her grand-daughter Christine (17yrs), she further realizes Christine is pregnant and this is her first Antenatal Screening test. Sally-Ann was unaware that Christine is pregnant and fears that her mum is also unaware of this news. Sally-Ann has trouble deciding if she should break laboratory protocol and discuss this issue with Christine and her mother.
It is proposed that Sally-Ann should talk to Christine before disclosing information to Christine's mother
