Euthanasia to be legalised
A lady aged 55-years-old had an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, a degenerative condition for which there is no cure. Her day-to-day functioning became almost non-existent due to the disease. She could no longer even touch her nose. She felt that the disease bought new meaning to the phrase a person can be their own worst enemy. Her husband Mr Mott helped his wife explore research on suicide methods and put together a kit with which she could kill herself. Mr Mott was charged with assisting suicide. This charge carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail. He pleaded guilty. Justice Patricia Courtney discharged him without conviction after ruling the consequences for his actions would be out of proportion to the gravity of the offence (New Zealand Herald, 28 December, 2013).
It is proposed that euthanasia for all ages be made legal
