Confidentiality versus disclosure over Auckland's poisoned dams: should the public have been warned?
Recently two dams which supply Auckland with water were closed for four months following the discovery of toxic herbicide traces found in tested water. Watercare, which monitors the dams said they didn't inform the public because they were confident that public safety was never at risk.
It is proposed that Watercare and the Auckland Council should have immediately informed the public and not kept it to themselves.
