Blurring boundaries?
The boundaries that define our public and private lives are not always clear with several recent newspaper articles highlighting the problems facing some professions when boundaries blur.
Those involved in education appear to be particularly under scrutiny, especially those involved in primary education.
News items debate whether teachers and other professionals such as police should be allowed to work as prostitutes out of hours. More recently news articles have discussed whether teachers posing in pornographic magazines should be disciplined by the New Zealand Teachers Council.
Are these issues relevant for the health care sector? Should health professionals be allowed freedom to choose how they spend their time off?
It is proposed that educators at all levels should be permitted to pursue additional, legal employment opportunities.
