Baby Blues

Baby Blues

Lily is 16 years old and pregnant. She comes to see you, a counselling psychologist, to confide in you about what has happened as the weight of her lie is becoming very stressful.
On her first visit she tells you her friend, your nephew, is the father of the baby. However on the second visit, she confides that it is all a lie because she was a victim of rape and is too scared to come forward about it, as she feels it was her own fault. She tells you your nephew offered to help, and begs you not to tell anyone because if her parents found out she would have to terminate the pregnancy or give the child up for adoption.
You feel a conflict of interest as you know your sister and her husband are preparing to welcome a grandchild into the family and their son is throwing away his education to get a job to support Lily and the baby. You are unsure what to do as you are bound by your code of ethics and cannot breach Lily's privacy.
It is proposed that the psychologist should inform Lily to tell the truth to save an entire family from heartbreak
