An Ethics Issue for a Counsellor.

A 16 year old girl’s mother noticed that her behavior has dramatically changed in the past few weeks, she seems to be wagging school sneaking out at night and being more secretive then usually. She has called the school counselor and asks her to speak with her daughter.

The school counselor finds out the young girl has a new boyfriend who has been physically violent towards her and has been forcing her to have sex with him. The young girl asks the counselor not to tell her mother. She agrees to place charges against the boy if the counselor does not tell her parents. The mother has been phoning the counselor wanting to know what is going on with the girl. So do you tell the mother about what the girl is going through?
