SAVING GRACE

SAVING GRACE

You are a physiotherapist assessing Grace, an elderly lady who lives alone, for discharge home following major surgery.

Grace tells you about Janet who is a neighbour and friend who has agreed to keep an eye on Grace. Grace's only family - her son and family live in Brisbane.

Grace's mobility is poor and following your assessment you believe she is unsafe for discharge. You assess her mobility as inadequate for her to manage alone in the small unit where she lives, and have some concerns about her safety. You would like to ensure that her mobility is improved before you clear her for discharge home. You inform her of this. She becomes angry with you and insists that you clear her for discharge.

What should you do?

It is proposed that you respect the patient's wishes
