Optional Vx Case Week 5: TRUTH HURTS?

Optional Vx Case Week 5: TRUTH HURTS?

A case has been reported in the media of Fiji's youngest ever rape victim - a 9 month old girl. Given her age it is likely that she will grow up not remembering this event (although the impact of the rape may affect her development from infancy onwards).

Should she be told she was a victim of rape?

Does the child have a right to know her own history including potentially traumatic events or do others have a duty to protect her from further harm by not disclosing this information to her?

Read more here: http://thelinkpaper.ca/?p=26518,

It is proposed that at a later stage in the girl's childhood she should be told of the rape.
